7 Tips For Achieving Your 2008 Resolutions

feb08.GIFAs the sun filtered through your window on 1 January and awakened you, what thoughts ran through your mind?  Did you reflect on any resolutions you may have made as the clock ticked into the new year?  Did you wonder what would be instore for you this year?  Did you make any promises to yourself?

The festive season, where many people traditionally take holidays and make idealistic new year resolutions, has been and gone.  We are now into February with most of us back re-engaging in our regular activities and routines.

What does 2008 hold for you?

So, what are your goals for this year?  Whether you have made some resolutions or not, refine what the outcomes are that you want to see for 2008.  Consider each of the following steps and identify how you can refine what actions you take to ensure you do what matters to make your goals a reality.

1.  Appreciate your Challenges & Achievements Over the Past 12 Months.  It can be empowering to reflect on the past 12 months, recognising the many ways you have progressed.  You will have grown and developed your knowledge, skills and experience in a variety of ways.  So, acknowledge and congratulate yourself on goals you have accomplished and those you are still working on.  If you feel disappointed, it’s even more important for you to look again, look hard - there has been progress if you are willing to look.  Don’t move to step 2 until you can appreciate your efforts!
What have you achieved over the past 12 months, big and/or small?

2.  Look into your Crystal Ball.  What is it that you see, hear, feel and know out there in the future, in 12 months time.  Based on where you are in your life right now:

·         What do you see?

·         Do you like what you see?

In all aspects of nature and life, there are cycles of things beginning, continuing and ending – your life is no different.  Reflect on what you saw when you looked into your crystal ball and consider how that picture compares to the one you would like to see.
What do you need to start, maintain and finish to achieve what you most desire?

3. Make Clear Decisions.  The next step is to make firm decisions on the goals and outcomes you are committed in 2008, those which you will take consistents action on.  Ask yourself what you need to do to incorporate aspects of Vitality, Performance and Lifestyle into each of the 8 key Wheel of Life areas:

·         Business/Career

·            Rest & Rejuvenation

·         Finances

·            Physical Welbeing

·         Relationships

·            Personal Development

·         Spiritual

·            Community/Contribution

To have success you must be committed to pushing through perceived barriers, doing whatever it takes until the goal is completed. If you are serious about your goal, then there’s no room for half baked efforts.
What goals are you committed to continuing until completion?

4.  Create an Integrated Plan.  Create a list of your 12 month goals and priorities.  Tailor your Goal Plan to your own core needs, ensuring that it:

·         Aligns with your core values

·         Progresses your vision for the future.

·         Enourages you to explore, learn and grow

·         Incorporates balance between each of the 8 key Wheel of Life areas

·         Supports your happiness and mental physical and spiritual wellness

Once all of these criteria have been met, then map out the key activites, logistics, timelines and targets required to achieve them.  Many resolutions fail because people try to make too many major changes in a short time.  So, allocate sufficient time and spacing to implement your plan.
Does your Goal Plan align with your core needs?

5.   Identify your Support Team.  The influence of those around can have a powerful impact on your journey.  So, surround yourself with people who are aligned with what you are wanting to achieve.  Evaluate who you want close to you and those you will need to create some distance from.  Then share your goals and objectives with those you want on your team and ask if they would be committed to assisting you by:

·         Holding you accountable to your goals and objectives

·         Acknowledging and challenging your progress

·         Encouraging and supporting you through the journey

·         Sharing their relevant knowledge, skills and experiences with you

Who will be on your support team?

6.  Take Consistent Action.  You may need to work on implementing new routines to ensure that necessary activites are completed.  Open your diary and mark in specific times each week when you will invest time, energy and resources into your nominated tasks and activities.
Are you investing regular time to cultivate new friendships and existing ones?

7.    Regularly Monitor and adjust.  Review your goals, objectives and progress regulary.  You will then notice if you are getting off track.  You can then assess potential reasons and create solutions to overcome them.  Recommit yourself to your desired outcomes.  Then, take the required corrective actions.  Acknowledge your efforts to adjust and progress forward – it’s all part of the journey.
Are you determined to find solutions to any hiccups along the way?

Create the outcomes you would love to see in that magic crystal ball.  What you conceive you can achieve!  Create the vision, align your goals with your values, and map out the specifics required.  Then gather a strong support team and start taking consistent actions, making any necessary adjustments until your goal is complete.

Also because of the way the session was structured, it showed me that the areas where I placed the most value were areas that I have struggled with for five years! So it was just what I needed to inspire me into action, the cost to my wellbeing was too important not to follow Lisa’s guidance”.  - Lisa Parker, Parker Investment Properties
